Commentary

It was commanded to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): We have appointed you and sent as a Witness on good and evil deeds, a Bringer of good tidings, a Warner, an Inviter towards Allaah Almighty by His Permission and an Illuminating Lamp for spreading the Light of Guidance everywhere in the world. Allaah Almighty is your Protecting Friend and Adroit for fulfilling all such responsibilities.

In these verses, it has been commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)! Give good news to the Believers that they have great value in the Sight of Allaah Almighty. Although present circumstances would temporarily be not consolatory, the enemies would have besieged from all around and tortured you in various ways without losing any chance, but you will overcome upon all of them very soon and gain virtue over your entire enemies by means of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and Holy Qur’an.

Then it is commanded: You should neither favor any Disbeliever or Hypocrite at the time of performing your duty and nor care such matters by which you are hurt. Your foes can never harm you. Therefore, you should trust only in Allaah Almighty. There is no one who may speak before Him without His Permission. All are helpless and unable before Him.

Allaah Almighty is Sufficient as Disposer of your entire affairs. He does not need any supporter, but all are needy of His support.
