Commentary
It is commanded: The Messengers (peace be upon them) are the men
who convey all Messages of Allaah Almighty to the people. Their hearts
have fear of Allaah Almighty and they do not fear any other save Him. These
are the peculiarities of the Prophets (peace be upon them). You also O Muhammad
(grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) are one of them. And you have
delivered the Message of Allaah Almighty to His slaves unhesitatingly.
We have prescribed this way of conveying the Commandment concerning adopted
sons that at first Zayd, your adopted son, should marry Zainab
(May Allah be pleased with them) and they both should live like husband and
wife. Then Zayd should divorce Zainab. After expiry of ‘iddat
(waiting period), nuptial knot of Zainab should be tied with you. Allaah
Almighty is Sufficient to establish the ways of every work and for examining
them.
O People! Listen! It is entirely wrong to say that Muhammad (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has married with divorced wife of his son,
because he is not father of any man. His sons, who were born, were died. They did
not reach the age limit when a boy is called a man. Muhammad (grace, glory,
blessings and peace be upon him) is a Messenger of Allaah Almighty. He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon
him) is a clear and strong sign that lineage of the Prophets (peace be upon
them) has been over.
