Commentary
It is commanded: The person who disobeys Allaah Almighty
and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him); certainly goes
astray from the right path and his error is very clear.
After that, it has been indicated toward that incident, by which
a bad ritual was erased. Detail of the incident is that “there was a noble man
from Arab whose name was Zayd son of Harith. During his
childhood, any cruel person kidnapped him and sold in Makkah as a slave.
Khadijah (May Allaah be pleased with her) bought him and gave to
the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). After some days,
when his relatives traced him, then his father, uncle and brother came and met
with the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and
requested: Take some exchange and hand him over to us! The Messenger (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) said: I don’t need any retaliation. You
may bring him with you if he desires to go. But Zayd (May Allaah
be pleased with him) liked to live with the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings
and peace be upon him). He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) set
him free from slavery, adopted him as his son and wished to marry him with Zainab
(May Allaah be pleased with her) daughter of Jahsh, who was the daughter
of the Messenger’s father’s sister, named Umaymah daughter of Abdul-Mutlib.
Zainab and her brother did not like this relationship.
In the first part of this verse, explained in the previous
lesson, it was commanded: It is not for a
believing man or a believing woman, when Allaah and His Messenger have
decided a matter, that they should, thereafter, have any choice about their
affair.
Zainab (May Allaah be pleased with her) obeyed the commandment
of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) of Allaah
Almighty and got married”.
