Commentary
‘As-haabul-‘Aykati – {The Dwellers in the wood
(of Midian)}, these people were inhabitants of Midian; who used
to adore ‘Aykah as most of the followers of Hindu religion adore the
Tree of Pipal (The Fig Tree). ‘Aykah was a Tree of Forest near
the Township of Midian. Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him)
belonged to the same folk. But since that the folk has been called as the
adorers of a tree here, so Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him) has not
been called their brother, because as he (peace be upon him) was an individual
of the folk of Midian, he was their brother, not as an adorer of the
Tree.
Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him) conveyed the same
Message at first which all other Prophets (peace be upon them) conveyed, that
is to say: Fear Allaah Almighty and believe that I am His Messenger. He
has appointed me His Messenger for delivering His Message as it is, and I am
quite trustworthy in this regard. I do not say to you to follow me that I am
greedy of wealth or property and wish to get any remuneration from you. I shall
be bestowed with reward of my work by the Lord of the Worlds.
I do not desire anything from you. This is said by all Prophets (peace
be upon them) in advance; so that the people may not be deceived considering
that they (peace be upon them) also are needy.
