Commentary

If the things of pleasantness of life are obtained by the mankind, then he does not hear of any other. Not only he closes his eyes from the side of any other afflicted person, but he desires to keep other people as his servants and obedient. He laughs at their worse condition and takes work from them by beating, and then provides them some remainder food, so that they may live for endure labor and misery, and admit him their master.

When a gang of such kind of man becomes, then entire world is overtaken by calamities. The same condition was of the tribe of Thamud. A party of prosperous and rich people was formed. Some bold and fearless people had become their chiefs and remaining all people of their tribe used to obey them.

Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) caused to understand them and said: Listen to me! Give up obeying these refractory fops. I am a Prophet of Allaah Almighty. They said: If you show us any portent then we shall accept.

A she-camel came out from the rock according to their demand, by the supplication of Salih (peace be upon him). But even then they did not believe. Salih (peace be upon him) said: Alas! You did not believe even after looking so much great portent. If you wish to live in the world now for some days then you should guard this she-camel. Be careful that no harm should reach her; otherwise it will not be better for you.

They cared for a few days, but some of their refractory people hamstrung the she-camel. On the next day when the people of the tribe saw sights of “the retribution of an awful day”, then they were penitent. But the anguish fell suddenly upon them.

There is a warning in this incident. Even then most of the people do not believe. O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): Your Lord is indeed the Mighty and the Merciful.
