Teachings of Islam are not fables

Chapter Shu-‘araaa’”- (The Poets) - 26

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

136.  They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach –

137.  This is but a fable of the men of old –

138.  And we shall not be doomed.

139.  And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not Believers.

140.  And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
136.  Qaaluu  sawaaa-‘un  ‘alay-naaa  ‘awa-‘azta  ‘am  lam  takum-minal-  waa-‘iziin.

137.  ‘In  haazaaa  ‘illaa  khulu-qul-‘awwaliin.

138.  Wa  maa  nahuu  bi-mu-‘azzabiin.

139.  Fakazzabuuhu  fa-ahlakNaa-hum.  ‘Inna  fii  zaalika  la-‘Aayah.  Wa  maa  kaana  ‘aksaruhum- Mu’-miniin.

140.  Wa  ‘inna  Rabbaka  la-Huwal- ‘Aziizur-Rahiim.
(Section 7)

Commentary

‘Awa-‘azta – (you preached), it is in past tense from the word wa’-zun, which means “to advise someone for his welfare and betterment”.

The people of the tribe of ‘Aad continued committing such wrong deeds harshly, which were entirely useless. They were at home in the art of construction and painting. They used to spend and destroy their wealth in the same works. Moreover, they used to molest the poor, feeble and weak people. They rejected the advice of Prophet Huud (peace be upon him) in these words: It is equal for us whether you preach us or otherwise. Your sayings are fables of ancient people. Preachers preached as they willed but the doers did as they wished. When and while the time of death used to come, they used to die, then there would be no reward or punishment.

It is commanded: Therefore, We destroyed them, their mansions and minarets. A severe wind came and everything was ruined. It is a Portent of Our Omnipotence, but many people do not believe because they are careless. In fact, your Lord is Most Powerful and along with it He is Most Merciful too.
