All people of Thamud were
destroyed
Chapter “Naml”- (The Ant) - 27
‘A-‘uu-zu Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah
from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًا وَمَكَرْنَا مَكْرًا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ 50 فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ مَكْرِهِمْ أَنَّا دَمَّرْنَٰهُمْ وَقَوْمَهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ 51

50. So they plotted a
plot; and We plotted a plot, while they perceived not.
51. Then see the nature
of the consequence of their plotting, for lo! We destroyed them and their
people, every one.

50. Wa makaruu
makranw-wa makarNaa makranw-wa
hum laa yash-‘uruun.
51. Fanzur kayfa
kaana ‘aaqibatu makrihim,
‘anNaa dam-marNaahum wa
qawmahum ‘ajma-‘iin.

Commentary
Makaruu and makarNaa – both words are in
past tense from makar. Makar means “secretly planning”. This word
has passed in Chapters 3 and 7.
Vicious people think every time tricks, wickedness and mischief.
They always make plans to kill a person, to commit dacoity at any particular
place, to thieve in a house or to rob a body of traders etc.
It has been commanded in this verse: Immoral chiefs of Thamud
made a plan to slaughter Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) and members
of his family that “they will attack by night and kill all of them. If they are
asked afterward, they will deny clearly”.
These were the wicked people who hamstrung the she-camel too by
conspiracy. After that when they were informed that they will be destroyed
after three days, and its tokens also began to appear, then they said: While we
have to die then we shall not let Salih (peace be upon him) and his
family live.
In the verse, it has been described: They attacked but Allaah
Almighty had already arranged for the safety of Salih (peace be upon
him) and his household.
Then it is commanded: Behold the nature of the consequence of
their plotting. As they were destroyed, like them their people were also
destroyed along with them. Accordingly, when three days passed, entire
population was ruined by dreadful earthquakes and frightful thunder.
We should take a warning from their circumstances. The good for
us in the world is in obedience of the command of Allaah Almighty and
His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), and after death;
nothing will be useful save it (obedience).
