Bilquiis said: I have wronged myself

Chapter Naml”- (The Ant) - 27

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

44.  It was said unto her: Enter the hall, but when she saw it she deemed it a pool and beared her legs. (Solomon) said: lo! it is a hall, made smooth, of glass. She said: My Lord! Lo! I have wronged myself and I surrender with Solomon unto Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
44.  Qiila  lahad-khulis-sarh.  Falammaa  ra-‘at-hu  hasibat-hu  lujjatanw-wa  kashafat  ‘an-  saa-qayhaa.  Qaala  ‘innahuu  sarhum-mumarradum-min-  qawaariir.  Qaalat  Rabbi  ‘innii  zalamtu  nafsii  wa  ‘aslamtu  ma-‘a  Sulaymaana  Lillaahi  Rabbil-‘Aalamiin.
(Section 3)

Commentary

Mumarradun – (made smooth), it is Passive Participle from the word tamriid, origin of which is mar-dun. Mardun means “hard and cleaned, upon which nothing can affect, but falls down by sliding”.

Sarhum-mumarradun – (such palace; floor of which was made smooth with solid glass; instead of lime or cement etc.).

Floor of a palace of Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him) was made smooth of solid and plain pieces of glass. These glasses used to shine like water from distance or really there was water below the floor, which was covered by glass. Solomon (peace be upon him) wished to prove that thoughts of Bilquiis concerning “denial from the Unity of God” were wrong. It was the reason that he (peace be upon him) ordered to bring the Queen in that palace. The floor seemed shining on the door and she considered that it was water. She uncovered her shins to wade through for being saved from their being wet.

Solomon (peace be upon him) was looking. He said: It is not water but floor of glass. Smooth mirror has been fitted on it. Bilquiis understood that she was taken in. She said: Mankind suffers from polytheism due to such deceit. I bought destruction for my soul by ascribing plurality to Allaah Almighty. I cast off and believed in the Lord of the Worlds like Solomon (peace be upon him).

That was acceptance of Islam which did she say earlier, and this was her disclosure of Belief and Certainty.
