A deafness in the ears
Chapter Kahf (The
Cave) – 18
‘A-‘uu-zu
Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا وَنَسِىَ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا وَإِنتَدْعُهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ فَلَن يَهْتَدُوٓا۟ إِذًا أَبَدًا 57

57b. Lo! On their hearts We have placed
coverings so that they understand not, and in their ears a deafness. And
though thou call them to the Guidance, in that case they can never be led
aright.

57b. ‘Innaa ja-‘alNaa
‘alaa quluubihim ‘akinnatan
‘any-yafqahuuhu wa fiii
‘aazaanihim waqraa. Wa ‘in tad-‘uhum
‘ilal-Hudaa fa-lany-yahtaduuu ‘izan
‘abadaa.

Commentary
Enmity against the Truth is rust of
the heart which destroys it in process of time. Then although you try your best
to cause to understand them; they will not understand. Their ears are unable to
hear the Truth. That window of the heart, from which the Light (of Guidance) could
reach into it, has been closed. And the dirt of falsehood has been stuffed into
it. Eyes were not made to see the unseen. Mankind have ears only; by means of
which they can hear the Revelations of Holy Qur’an and the voice of the
Right can reach their hearts. If these also are closed then how can hidden
secrets of the Reality can reach up to the hearts?
It is being commanded to the
Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): While their hearts
have become rusty, those have been covered by remissness and closed due to being
full with the dirt of falsehood, at that time; if you call them to the Guidance;
then how will they hear your sayings? When the voices of falsehood come in to
the ears of mankind at every time and the sounds only of a lie echo regularly,
then call of the Truth cannot reach in the hearts. Till the time the voice of
the falsehood is not closed, they can never find the Guidance.
