The judgment of the men of old

Chapter Kahf (The Cave) – 18

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُقُبُلًا 55

55.  And naught hindereth mankind from believing when the Guidance cometh unto them, and from asking forgiveness of their Lord unless (it be that they wish) that the judgment of the men of old should come upon them or (that) they should be confronted with the doom.

55.  Wa  maa  mana-‘annaasa  ‘any-yu’-minuuu  ‘iz  jaaa-‘a-humul-Hudaa  wa  yastagfiruu  Rabbahum  ‘illaaa  ‘an-  ta’-tiya-hum  sunnatul-‘awwaliina  ‘aw  ya’-tiyahumul-‘Azaabu  qubulaa.

        

Commentary

Qubula – (of the front), this word has come out from qabala, which means “in front of, before, opposite to, in presence of”. Qubul is the thing which is in front. So the word qubula has been translated as “of the front or before”.

It is not known that what has happened with the people that they do not admit the Commands of Holy Qur’an and do not make it their “Rules of Practice”. Save it there is nothing that their desires and greediness have covered their sense. And the Light of Holy Qur’an does not reach up to it.

In the end, what would be consequence of going astray and this misconduct, except it that severe doom should come before them due to their straggling, destructive calamities should fall upon them, troubles and diseases should come and they should be surrounded by the storms, they should be ruined by earthquakes and they should fall down after flying by raging wind-storms. Have they been looking the same way that such kinds of torments should come before them, or like the ancient people; they should be ruined completely? Do they wish the same?

Have they been practising delay and waiting for it? Apparently it seems that We have performed Our duty of causing to understand them. Now what is remaining; that is only that they should be confronted with the Doom. They should not be arrogant due to respite; bestowed by Allah Almighty but consider it abundance, begin to think for correcting their life after death and do not risk heaven.
