Commentary

‘A-‘in  zukkirtum – (Is it because you were reminded?), here some part of the discourse has been left “you will determine it as a bad omen”, because it can be understood naturally. Not only; the people of the City said to those three Prophets (peace be upon them) that they were ill-omened, but after that they threatened them also and said: You should refrain from your discourses, otherwise we shall torment you!

It is commanded: They said! Stop speaking; otherwise we shall stone you in such a way that you will lose your lives. Do you know us not? We shall tyrannize you so much that you will remember it always. We shall trouble you as much painfully that you will forget everything.

Those people were very proud and had been entangled in their negligence and evil deeds. The y did not know that this world has been created by Allaah Almighty. Everything of this universe has been working under a Law and Established Order. The person, who will break that Law; will be punished later or sooner properly according to prescribed punishment of breaking any particular Law. They used to consider that they were very powerful and able to torment severely to their adversary. They could not understand that Allaah Almighty is the Most Powerful Who can punish them also very severely.

Those three Prophets (peace be upon them) grieved on their such ignorance and caused to understand them softly and with restraint: This ominousness has come upon you due to adversity of your personal deeds. If you had meditated in our sayings, you could know that whatsoever we were saying, was beneficial only for you, and our advice was entirely for your welfare. Is this reward of our advice and good-will that you consider us ill-omened, become our enemy unnecessarily and get ready to trouble us? You should not do so.
