Commentary

It was commanded in the previous verse: As Allaah Almighty has prescribed Rules and Regulations for all things of the entire universe, like this the Rules and Regulations are prescribed for the mankind also, in which there can come neither any change and nor those can be altered by other laws. So you should be sure that as ancient people were punished due to opposing the Law of Allaah Almighty, like them you will be punished too. It is better for you that you should understand the Law of Retaliation. Signs of this Law’s issuance are clearly apparent in the History of ancient people and their remaining effects in the form of the Ruins on the earth.

Those people are being asked in this verse who broke the Law of Allaah Almighty: Have you not traveled through the land at different places of other Countries? Certainly you would have passed through. You would have seen the ruins and signs of ancient people’s townships. You had to think that where those people had gone who used to live there, what did they do during their lives and what the consequence was of their deeds?

You would have known after hearing their circumstances that those people were physically very stronger, richer in wealth and more honorable than you. They disobeyed the Commandments of Allaah Almighty, Sayings of His Prophets (peace be upon them) and did not care for their advice. At last they reached the recompense for the wicked deeds committed. (Let us flee to Allaah).
