1.  Taa. Siin.  Miim.

2.  These are Revelations of a Book luminous.

3.  It may that thou tormentest thyself (O Muhammad) because they believe not.

4.  If We will, We can send down on them from the sky a Portent so that their necks would remain bowed before it.
1.  Taa-Siiim-Miiim.

2.  Tilka  ‘Aayaatul-Kitaabil-mubiin.

3.  La-‘allaka  baakhi-‘un-naf-saka  ‘allaa  yakuunuu  Mu’-miniin.

4.  ‘In-Nasha’  Nunazzil  ‘alayhim-  minas-samaaa-‘i  ‘Aayatan  fa-zallat  ‘a’-naaquhum  lahaa  khaazi-‘iin.

Commentary

Baakhi-‘un – (tormentor), this word is Subject from bakh-‘un, which means “to torment, to ruin”. Another word for it is “slaughter”.

Khaazi-‘iina – (those who bow), it is plural of khaazi-‘un, which has been derived from khaza’. Khazuu’ means “to bow with humility”. khaazi-‘un means “the person who bows with humility”.

‘A’-naaqun – (necks), this is plural of ‘unaqun, which means “neck”. Bending the neck is sign of mankind’s bowing entirely. It is the reason that the word Khaazi-‘iina has been used instead of khaazi-‘atun. Besides this, ‘unuqun means “the people of higher grades” also. Then its meaning will be “the people of higher grades will fall prostrate before Him”.

It is commanded: The secret of your life is concealed in these Revelations which are being recited and caused to hear you. These are verses of that Holy Book which explains the way of dwelling in the world with purity, in very dignified language, clear words and luminous dictions, which is being introduced practically by Our Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for always.

Then it is commanded to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): If these people do neither listen to the verses of Holy Qur’an and nor admit the way established according to its commandments, then will you torment yourself in this grief that these wretched people believe not? You should not grieve so much for these stupid people. If We willed, We would have sent down any such portent from the sky that the necks of all of them would have bowed with humility before that portent. But no! We desire to examine their power of option.
