Commentary
‘An-daadan – (grown-up,
rival, one in pursuit of the same object as another), this word is plural of niddun,
which means “a thing of equal value to the other”.
Masiira – (journey’s
end, to return), origin of this word is sa-ya-ra, from which two words
have come out – say-ruura-tun and masiira, which means “coming
back to own place”.
Tamatta-‘uu – Enjoy your
life! It is a word of command from tamattu’, which has been derived from
mataa’. Mataa’ means – goods, valuables, effects, chattels etc. Tamattu’
means “to reap advantage from existing possessions”.
Refractoriness and
obstinacy of the people of Makkah is being described in this verse.
Allah Almighty had graced them very much, but they had ascribed many partners
of their Beneficent (Allah Almighty); leaving Him. It was the result that due
to their influence, the people had also left their Lord and they turned away
from His prescribed Way.
Allah Almighty
commands: Say to them! It’s right that for the present; you have been reaping
advantage by means of some offerings to fulfill your requirements. Well! Enjoy your
life for some days. At last you would have to go to the burning Fire of the
Hell, because the work; you have been committing, that is to say, denying Allah
Almighty and His thanklessness, after death its result is nothing but
punishment. Due to your evil deeds, which misfortune will come in the world,
that is a separate thing.
Chieftains of Quraish
committed two offences:
1. They went astray themselves.
2. They misled other people by swaying. They were punished in the world
due to this crime and will be punished also on the Day of Resurrection.
Effectual people should learn from it.
