18. A similitude of
those who disbelieve in their Lord: Their works are as ashes which the wind
bloweth hard upon a stormy day. They have no control of aught that they have
earned. That is the extreme failure.

Commentary
‘Aasifin (hurricane,
fast wind), this word is an adjective from ‘a-sa-fa. ‘Asafa means
“blowing of the wind hard”. This word has passed in Surah Yuunus. The
word ‘Aasif is actually an attribute of the wind. But here, it has been
determined as an attribute of the day with regard to it that the wind blows
hard in it.
Some people think:
We help the helpless, solve complain of friendless, give charity and alms in
abundance. We let not create any disturbance, settle mutual disputes of the
people with justice, and we worship also according to our religion. Shall we be
punished even then while we are peace-lovers and of good disposition?
It has been decided
in this verse and caused well to understand that the people who do not believe
in the last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)
and adore any other than Allah Almighty denying Him, their deeds will be
useless on the Day of Resurrection and those (their good acts) will be ruined
as atoms of ashes disappear when wind blows hard. They can live satisfactorily
in the world due to their almsgiving, civility and good works, but without
Belief, their any good work will not save them from the Hell. It is the greatest
misfortune.
