Wicked nature and envy of brothers

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) - 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

13.  He said:  Lo! In truth it saddens me that ye should take him with you, and I fear lest the wolf devour him while ye are heedless of him.

14.  They said: If the wolf should devour him when we are (so strong) a band, then surely we should have already perished.
13.   Qaala  ‘innii  la-yahzunu-nii  ‘an  taz-habuu  bihii wa  ‘akhaa-fu  ‘anyya’-kulahuz-zi’-bu  wa  ‘antum  ‘anhu  gaafi-luun.

14.  Qaaluu  la-‘in  ‘akala-huz-zi’-bu  wa  nahnu  ‘ustatun  ‘in-naaa  ‘izalla-khaa-siruun.

Commentary

Affection of Father (Jacob – peace be upon him), jealousy of brothers and their wicked nature, innocence of Joseph (peace be upon him) - these entire passions had been working in separate minds individually. The brothers had been blind due to envy. It had been crazed to them that they should remove Joseph (peace be upon him) away from their Father (peace be upon him) and then; by serving and obeying, they should obtain His kindness. The Father (peace be upon him) had not trust in anyone due to excessive affection that He should let; a loving son like Joseph; go with someone, particularly while He was well aware of vile feelings which did exist in the minds of Joseph’s other brothers. Once, He (peace be upon him) had indicated Joseph (peace be upon him) that he should be careful from His brothers. But that open-hearted child (Joseph) did not know trickery of common people. He was misled easily by his brothers and He thought “in truth there is no harm in going out for recreational purpose for only one day”. If He had not taken side of His brothers, Jacob (peace be upon him) would never had let Him go out with His brothers. He (peace be upon him) had replied on request, to His brothers: “What should I do? My heart begins to flutter when I think that when you will bring Joseph into Jungle, any wolf will carry Him silently and devour Him (peace be upon him).
