Believing Is Better Than Evildoing

LESSON # 406 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
Believing Is Better Than Evildoing
Surah ‘Aali ‘Imran (The Family Of ‘Imran, Chapter - 3)
Verse –110b & 111 of 200, Section –12    (Part – 4)

110b.  And if the People of the Scripture had believed it had been better for them. Some of them are believers; but most of them are evil-livers.

111.  They will not harm you save a trifling hurt, and if they fight against you they will turn and flee. Then they will not be helped.
110b.  Wa  law  ‘aamana  ‘Ahlul-Kitaabi  lakaana  khayral-lahum.  Min-humul-mu’-minuuna  wa  ‘aksaru-humul-faasiquun.

111.  Lany-yazurruukum  ‘illaaa  ‘azaa. Wa  ’iny-yuqaatiluukum  yu-walluukumul-‘adbaar. Summa  laa  yunsaruun.

Lesson

‘illaaa  ‘azaa – (save a trifling hurt) it means that the Jews will either abuse, or reproach with their tongues or will cause any other trifling hurt. They cannot harm you more than this.

Allah Almighty commanded the People of the Scripture in this verse, “If you had believed, it had been better for you, like this you also could join the khayral  ‘ummam  (the best of the nations). You would be honored in the world and got reward in the Hereafter”. But Alas! None of them accepted Islam besides a few persons {for example Abdullah bin Salaam or Negus (the Emperor of Abyssinia) etc}. Despite becoming the truth obvious, they stuck disobedience.

Most people of them are disobedient. Allah Almighty says, “O Muslims! You should not be afraid due to viewing either their more number of army personnel or materially arms and equipment”. It is the promise of Allah Almighty that these disobedient people will never harm you provided that, you prove yourselves as khayral  ‘ummam  the best of the nations in its true meanings. These people can either just abuse, or reproach with their tongues or will cause any other trifling hurt. They neither can overcome you, nor can cause to lose you heavy. Be sure that if they would come to fight with you, they will turn and flee, and they will not get any help from any side. They will be disgraced through the defeat.

This foretelling of the Holy Qur’an was completed. During the times of Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) of last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), the People of the Scripture faced depravity like this. They tried their best for the destruction of Islam and Muslims but could not harm the Muslims. Wherever they opposed, ran away after the defeat. In addition, at every occasion Allah Almighty helped the Muslims.
