Commentary
The aim from Ziinat is natural beauty of women’s body or
any part of their body and that beauty which is gotten by wearing ornaments and
garments etc. In the beginning, believing men and women were instructed that
they should lower their gaze. And it was commanded to them clearly that they
should not open their body parts which are required to be kept covered. Moreover,
the women were directed that except face, hands and feet, they should not
expose their decoration and any part of their body or its adornment before the common
people save those men who have been described in this verse. The women have to
keep their faces, hands, feet and ornaments opened under the orders of
necessity. The men should keep their eyes lower, and this commandment for women
is in all conditions whether they are at home or outside the house.
It is commanded: It is compulsory for the women that they should
keep their veils drawn over their bosoms. In addition, it is commanded concerning
common body parts that they should not reveal their forms and adornments before
any other, but their husbands, fathers, fathers-in-law, sons, brothers, step
sons, brothers’ and sisters’ sons (nephews). Remember it that it is the
commandment of that society, in which men and women (both) lower their gaze.
