Talking without knowledge

Chapter Nuur” – (Light) - 24

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

15.  And when ye welcomed it with your tongues, and uttered with your mouths that whereof ye had no knowledge, and ye counted it a trifle. And in the Sight of Allah it is very great.

16a.  Wherefor, when ye heard it, said ye not: It is not for us to speak of this.

Commentary

Keeping the society chaste and pure is collective responsibility of the Muslims. Society is not established by only gathering of the people at a place, but it is established by producing such deep relationship among the individuals by which mutual hearty harmony is created in this group of people. As though; assembly is a body and living altogether well is its soul. Combination of the both will become a living thing, which will be called Society. And then its instructions will be followed by all people. It is the way of making a society that inside the people themselves, a person of good moral character is born. Then every individual should mould own manners according to that person’s nature; to such stage that a standard of civility is established. Then morality of all members of the society will be set on that pattern.

Quality of manners of the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is a criterion. And in accord with that standard, the society will be established. Whoever will not follow that pattern, wrath of Allaah Almighty will come upon him/her.

Some people had turned away from that standard at that occasion which has been mentioned in this verse. They tried to ensnare others in this misfortune by abusing. They have been warned in this verse that spreading such rumors is a great sin. To say without verification that which other people say; is crossing the line of the Religious Law. It should not be considered any common matter. There is a fear of being the society disorganized by it. The person, who is found and proved guilty, should be punished properly. But on the basis of doubts or by saying someone else, none should be accused of any evil deed. Shut up your mouth! You consider that vilifying others is not a serious matter, but it is a great crime in the Sight of Allaah Almighty.
