Similes of Holy Qur’aan and Their Affects

LESSON # 42 FROM HOLY QUR’AN
BAQARAH – 2 (The Cow)
Similes of Holy Qur’aan and Their Affects
Verse – 26 of 286, Section – 3 (Part  - 1)
Lo! Allah disdaineth not to coin the similitude of a gnat or even anything above that. Those who believe know that it is the truth from their Lord; and those who disbelieve say: What doth Allah wish (to teach) by such a similitude? He misleadeth many thereby, and He guideth many thereby. And He misleadeth thereby only miscreants.
‘Innallaaha laa yastah-yiii ‘any-yazriba masalam-maa ba-‘uuzatan- famaa fawqahaa. Fa-‘ammallaziina ‘aamanuu fa-ya’-lamuuna ‘annahul-Haqqu mir-Rabbihim. Wa ‘ammal-laziina kafaruu fayaquuluuna maazaaa’araadallaahu bihaa-zaa masa-laa. Yuzillu bihii kasiiranw-, wayahdii bihii kasiiraa. Wa maa yu-zillu bihiii ‘illal-Faasi-qiin.

Lesson

Fawqahaa – (Above that) More lean and ignoble thing than above.
In the previous verses disbelievers were invited to prove the truth of Holy Qur’aan that if they consider it is not the Speech of God, they produce the speech like this. But they could neither reply till to-date and nor they will till the Day of Resurrection. In this condition of helplessness they could not do anything. However they tried to find out and said that how is it an extraordinary that The God having too much high position and greatness gives similitude of so contemptible and lean things?
It is true that in the Holy Qur’aan bigger creatures are also mentioned on different places along with the smaller, animals like on one side the elephants, camels and horses etc and on the other hand ant, fly and mosquito etc. To make the people understand the God has discussed similes of these animals. As somewhere He says that idols of infidels are too weak and helpless to create a fly. But when a fly or mosquito sits on their faces they can not let it fly. Somewhere He says that religion of Infidels is weak like spider’s web. Hearing these like similes some Infidels began to say that God of Muslims speaks so strange (we seek refuge in Allah) that He does not hesitate to give instances of so small things. God replied on their criticism in this verse.

Simile means the thing for which example is given, be impressed upon mind by explaining widely and illuminating. Now that simile will be the best which fulfills this intention, wishing that thing is much customary or small itself. Mosquito is a too much ignoble and unimportant creature. Now where there is need to explain unreality of idols or any other creature, there will be appropriate example of mosquito. Criticizing against it is a folly and immaturity.

Summary of above verse is that Allah Almighty does not hesitate to give example of mosquito or smaller thing than it. Because purpose to give example is to explain anything. The example will be given like something is. There is nothing to hesitate or take bad with it.
The Believers take this example as true and proper explainer and consider it right from the God. But Infidels laugh at these examples and taunt critically that what Allah Almighty means by giving these types of examples?

The Believers have faith on being worshipped of God Almighty and Truth of Hadrat Muhammad (Peace be upon Him). They consider it their first duty to admit the orders of God Almighty and His Prophet (Peace be upon Him)) and to act on them. Therefore, if God Almighty explains any simile, they try to understand its true meanings. They do not care that the similitude is of what sort itself? Is it customary or have some importance? Is there an explanation of either any superior or inferior thing. Though they think about its true meaning and learn from it.

The Infidels refuse God Almighty and His Prophet (Peace be upon Him). They do not have any interest to find the Right. They just keep watching the secrets in the verses or to find out faults. So whenever Allah Almighty explains simile for their consideration in spite of trying to understand its true meanings, they begin to raise unreasonable questions on it.

From this verse we have learnt that the Believers and the people who have good moral character are those who think about the similitude explained by Allah Almighty. They try to understand and do not use crooked arguments in it.

Faasi-qiin - (Miscreants). According to the Divine’s Law who gets out from the obedience of God, disobeys and indulges in sins.
There are many ways to reach the destination in the world but out of these all there is only one way which can be straight. Allah Almighty gave wisdom and granted sense to the mankind. Not only this, although He sent messages through Prophets and Messengers (Peace be upon Then) for guidance. After this the mankind is empowered to choose a way which he wants. Now if a person, getting advantage of freedom chooses a wrong way then he falls in evil. And when he adopts evil at his own then other accessories of that way are provided. As putting hand into the fire gets burnt like this when a person adopts a wrong path then evils and harms increase gradually.

According to this verse due to similes of Allah Almighty some people go astray because of their reasoning absurdly and arguments. They do not think about purpose of these examples, although they waste their powers of thinking on criticizing against it. Immoral means miscreants, who run behind their evil desires and do not listen to any talk easily which may prevent them from their bad habits.

At the end of the verse God Almighty explains it more clearly that this astray comes to them who want to go astray. Allah Almighty does not attach astray upon anyone, although his heart leaves out due to his disobedience knowingly and repeatedly. Search for the truth and demand of the Right do not remain. Absurd and lie attach with heart. Though astray is the result of disobedience and evil.
