Quran Chapter 37: 54 to 57 (Pt-23, Stg-6) (L-2759) درس قرآن

The Favour of my Lord

Chapter “Saaaffaat” - (Those who set the Ranks) – 37

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

54.  He saith: Will ye look?

55.  Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of Hell.

56.  He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin-

57.  And had it not been for the Favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom).
54.  Qaala  hal  ‘antum-muttali-‘uun.

55.  Fattala-‘a  fara-‘aahu  fii  sawaa-’il-Jahiim.

56.  Qaala  Tallaahi  ‘in  kitta  laturdiin.

57.  Wa  law-laa  Ni’-matu  Rabbii  lakuntu  minal-muhzariin.

Commentary

‘In – (verily, almost), this word is abbreviation of ‘inna here.

Laturdiini – (of course, you ruined me), actually this word is laturdiinii. La, which is in the beginning, that means “certainly, of course, positively”. The word turdii has come out from ‘iraadaa-‘un, its origin is radii which means “to fall down in a pit. ‘Irdaa-‘un is transitive from the same, which means “to throw someone in any pit, which aims “to ruin, to destroy”.

Then he will say to his companions in Paradise: We should have a look that where he is and exists in which condition. After that, he will look and find that his worldly comrade, who used to make him fool due to having belief in the Day of Resurrection, will be visible in the very middle of the Fire. At that time, he will perceive wholly that he has entirely been saved from a great danger. It will come out from his mouth without deeming: How much it is good for me that I have been saved from your misleading, otherwise I also would have been suffering like you. You tried your best to push me into the terrible pit.

If I had followed you; I too would have been burning in the Fire like you. I am very thankful to my Lord Who saved me from your deception. It is His bounty and great favor that I am safe, otherwise I also would have been seized like you, produced in His Court and had deserved the same punishment.

We will indeed be recompensed

Chapter “Saaaffaat” - (Those who set the Ranks) – 37

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

51.  A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade-

52.  Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)?

53.  Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones – can we (then) verily be brought to book?
51.  Qaala  qaaa-‘ilum-minhum  ‘innii  kaana  lii  qariin.

52.  Yaquulu  ‘a-‘innaka  laminal-musaddiqiin.

53.  ‘A-‘izaa  mitnaa  wa  kunnaa  turaabanw-wa  ‘izaaman  ‘a-‘innaa  lamadiinuun.

Commentary

Madiinuuna – (will be recompensed, will be called to account), this word is plural of madiinun which has been derived from daynun. Daynun means “to requite”.

Heavenly people will be sitting comfortably on coaches in the Garden, drinking cups of palatable wine and talking with one another happily. Meanwhile one of them will miss his one companion of the world and he will say to the people of his council: I remembered that I had a comrade in the world who used to say: You were an intelligent but have become such ignorant that you believe in the Day of Resurrection, consider that coming back to life again after death is true and we will indeed be recompensed. What has happened with your understanding? You don’t think that when a mankind has died, his body has been finished and mixed in the earth. Only some bones remained which also has been broken in small pieces and wasted, then will he be brought back to life? I don’t understand these matters of ignorance. I don’t know how you believe that it is the truth, and along with the belief in the life after death, you believe also that every sinner will be punished and thrown into the Fire of the Hell, but the person who believed and did good works; will enjoy and live in the mansions of the Gardens. In short, he used to make me fool and jest after observing my deeds as of the religious people.

47.  Wherein there is no headache nor they feel giddy thereby.

48.  And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes-

49.  (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich).

50.  And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.
47.  Laa  fiihaa  gawlunw-wa  laa  hum  ‘anhaa  yunzafuun.

48.  Wa  ‘indahum  qaasiraa-tut-tarfi-‘iin.

49.  Ka-‘annahunna  bayzum-maknuun.

50.  Fa-‘aqbala  ba’-zuhum  ‘alaa  ba’-ziny-yatasaaa-‘aluun.

Commentary

Gawlun – (polluted, bad effect, headache), the meaning of this word is “to destroy any thing”. Here it aims “Destroying the senses”.

Yunzafuuna – (intoxicated, to feel giddy),

It is commanded: Which wine will be provided to the good-natured people in the Paradise; that will not have any such badness in it, which is seen in the liquors of this world. It will be that wine’s peculiarity that any drinker will neither feel any bad effect of it whether he drink as much as he can and nor will he feel giddy. Senses of the drinkers will work properly without stammering.

There are many depravities in the wine of this world as senselessness, being dull of understanding, stomach pain, headache, excessive urination, vomiting, body-pain and acting like mad people. There will be no such badness in the wine of Paradise. Due to its delicious taste, the drinkers will enjoy merriment and pleasure, ambition and delight only. With them there will be maidens of modest gaze with lustrous eyes. Their color will be like the eggs of ostrich. Usually their color is yellowish white which seems very beautiful. The people of Arab like this color very much. It is the reason that the women of the Paradise have been compared with the eggs of ostrich.

After that it is commanded: The people of the Paradise will converse paying attention to one another. Before this, conversation between the Hellish people was discussed.

Commentary

Ma-‘iin - (gushing, flowing, pure), this word is an Adjective from ma-‘a-na. Ma-‘an means “to flow, to gush”. It is known that flowing water is more pleasant and delicious than stopped water. Therefore, aim from the word ma-‘iin is the same (pleasant and delicious).

It is commanded: Opposite to them, there will be such people who are favorite and chosen servants of Allaah Almighty. Their circumstances will be quite different from them. Grace and mercy of Allaah Almighty will be upon them. Such kinds of provisions will be given to them, state of which is confirmed and known. These will be fruits of very nice kinds. They will be respected and honored. In the Gardens of Pleasure, grand thrones will be laid and they will be sitting before one another comfortably reclining with pillows. Chaste and clean servants will be circulating among them bearing cups of wine in their hands for producing before them. This wine will be of a strange kind. Its color will be transparent white and it will be taken from a flowing spring. For its drinkers; it will be very delicious in taste. These drinkers will be such people who passed their worldly lives in the obedience of Allaah Almighty, believed that His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) was true, and who had acted upon the Commandments of Holy Qur’an.

38.  ‘Innakum  la-zaaa-‘iqul-‘Azaabil-‘Aliim.

39.  Wa  maa  tujzawna  ‘illaa  maa  kuntum  ta’-maluun.

Commentary

Self greatness has taken place in the hearts of these people so much that they give no importance to any other, although others would be more intelligent than them. Therefore those, who were wise of them, believed that Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) was true. And they gave full importance to him. But these proud people said continually: How can we give up such gods for a mad poet which were adored by our forefathers and the entire folk till today? (Let us flee to Allaah). They used to say that Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) was a poet because his Word was very effective. And they used to say him insane because in accordance with their thought, mind of only that person can be correct who follows blindly their ancient customs and traditions. It is entirely self-conceitedness.

After that, it is commanded: Say to them! You are entirely at wrong. Your statement is false. In fact, that is quite right and true whatever Our Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) says. He does not make imaginary words like poets. Neither he is a poet and nor a mad, because he has chosen the same Path which was chosen by all previous Prophets (peace be upon them) who recited true revelations before the people sent down by Allaah Almighty. And he (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) confirms all of them. He is sympathetic and well-wisher of entire mankind and does not give pain to any other. You will be entangled in very painful Doom on a Day if you did not obey him. You will taste torment on the Day of Resurrection as retribution of denying him and your arrogance. And that will be recompense of your own deeds.
