that chieftains of his people passed him, they made mock of him. He said: If
ye make mock of us, we too shall mock at you even as ye mock.

Commentary
It is commanded that when Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) started
building the ship, it was known to him by means of inspiration from Allah
Almighty (in parts) that which should be its form and shape, how much
compartments and storeys of it should be built, and how much should it be long
and wide. He (peace be upon him) used to engage in this work from morning to
evening daily, because it was commandment from Allah Almighty.
Every time when chieftains of His (peace be upon him) folk used to pass
and see that He (Noah - peace be upon him) was connecting the wooden planks
with one another, they used to make mock of Him and say jeeringly: Wow! What
are you fabricating now; leaving all preaching and advice?
Messenger Noah (peace be upon him) used to say: I have been building a
floating house. Hearing this; they used to laugh at Him (peace be upon him),
say and pass: What is exigency of a floating house at a dry place?
Noah (peace be upon him) used to say: Do you laugh? We have been
looking death standing over your heads. We laugh also on your carelessness and
ignorance that “every human being tries to collect provisions for hundred of
years but nobody knows that what will happen in the next moment”. O.K. Laugh as
much as you can. You will be known very soon that “whether we shall suffer or
you, whether you meet your doom for ever or we”.
