Lesson

It was described about those Hypocrites, in the previous verses, who were living in Madinah city. These people came unto Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) and told their pretenses separately by every individual, because they did not give any importance to the preparation for the Battle of Tabuuk, and requested for permission to sit at home.

In this verse, there is recitation about the villagers. When they heard that the Muslims have been ordered to move for war towards Syria; and the people have been getting ready for this purpose, then some of them came towards the Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallamon the basis of outward connections and requested: At this occasion; our participation would be difficult. In addition to readiness of crops and seasonal heat, we fear also that neighboring enemies will rob our all wealth and family at home by reaping advantage from our absence. Therefore, please grant us permission so that we may live at home. These people are included in mu-‘az-ziruun (who had an excuse).

Some were such people who did not make preparation for the Battle. They did not move from their homes but heard the news from one ear and drove out from the other. These people were called qaa-‘iduun. In this verse these both kinds of people have been mentioned.

It is commanded that some people from the wandering Arabs came to Madinah for getting permission to stay at home for keeping made their outward reputation, whereas some did not care even of ostentation and sat at home. These both kinds of people are blameworthy. If they would not repent in future, but lived as unbeliever and died as infidel, then, there is a very painful doom ready for them on the Day of Resurrection.

However, those people; whose excuses are reasonable; they deserve permission. Remaining all false impostors will grieve in the world as well as they will deserve painful doom on the Day of Resurrection, on the condition that they do not renounce with true heart.

The commentators have told the names of those villagers, however, knowing their names or otherwise, is equal. Actual aim from it is that everyone should know the end of these kinds of people, so that they all should fear at their own and understand well that Allah Almighty and His Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallamcannot be deceived. Only sincerity and true belief will be useful there. Those, who make false excuses; will be punished properly, retaliation of their evil intentions, if possible; in the world, otherwise certainly in the Hereafter. And their punishment is like a warning for the Muslims; that whether; are they not turning their faces by evading from the obedience of Allah Almighty?
