Lesson
‘Ummatun – (the community – unanimous in opinion), we say
and write it “’Ummah”. This word has been used at many places in Holy Qur’aan
with different meanings. But in every meaning, it implies as “a collective group,
a crowd, an assembly, a compendium, an aggregate, a code etc.” The Nation also
means a group; but the difference which seems among a Nation and an Ummah
is that the nation is a confederate class of the people in a country and native
land, whereas Ummah is made due to uniformity in Faith of the people,
whether those people belong to separate countries and places. This equality of Credence
is called “Religion” upon which any group acts.
It is commanded that Qur’aan does not teach
any new Religion, but it guides unto that Religion which is ancient of the human
beings. The people changed this Religion and created new ones according to
their own will and became separate nations. Those entire religions are false.
Holy Qur’aan guides the humankind unto their
original Religion again. Allah Almighty has established this Rule in the world
that the True Religion should be cleared and moderated by sending inspiration
on the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them).
Those people whose religion is correct, will live
in the Gardens (Paradise), whereas abode of those whose religion is false; is
the Fire of the Hell. It seems that due geographical dissensions the people had
become different nations from the beginning, but their Religion was the same “One”.
Therefore they were one nation. On the Day of Resurrection, nationality of any
individual will not be asked. The people will be assembled in accordance with Ummah
and everyone will be rewarded or punished according to own Religion.
