Slaying of the Prophets (peace be upon them) unjustly

Lesson # 578 From Holy Qur’aan
Slaying of the Prophets (peace be upon them) unjustly
Surah Nisaaa’ (Women) – Chapter – 4
Verse –155 of 176, Section – 22/24 (Part – 6)

Then because of their breaking of their covenant, and their disbelieving in the Revelations of Allaah, and their slaying of the Prophets unjustly, and their saying: Our hearts are enfolded in covers. Nay, but Allaah set a seal upon them for their disbelief, so that they believe not  save a few-
Fa-bimaa  naq-zihim-Miisaaqahum  wa  kufrihim-  bi-‘AayaatIllaahi  wa  qatli-himul-‘ambi-yaaa-‘a  bi-gayri  haqqinw-wa  qawlihim  quluubunaa  gulf.  Bal  taba-‘Allaahu  ‘alayhaa  bi- kufrihim  falaa  yu’-minuuna  ‘illaa  qaliilaa.

Lesson

Miisaaqa – (covenant, treaty, agreement, negotiation), this word is made from the word wasuuq, which means ‘to trust’. Miisaaq means ‘trustworthy promise’.
Gulf – (covered), it is plural of ‘aglaf, which has been derived from gilaaf. ‘Aglaf is the thing, which is as hidden in the cover that anything may not reach there from outside.
Taba-‘a  - (set a seal, stamped), this word is from taba’, which means ‘to seal, to print, to publish, to stamp, to press the congealed thing (with a stamp), which has been put over that thing which needs to be sealed, so that the letters of the stamp may grow. With this practice, the thing which is sealed, that becomes safe and nothing can enter there.

It was signified in the previous verses that the Jews were punished excessively. Now it is being explained, “Why the Jews were awarded too much severe punishments”? There would be no other nation in the world which did so much impudence and then remained safe from complete destruction. It was result of the supplications of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) that they were not ruined. If they had believed in the Last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), then certainly they would have become superiors also in the world as well as their Hereafter would have been arranged. But they were hunted by punishment of their bad deeds and remained unfortunate from noble graciousness like Islam.

It is commanded that they were beaten black and blue because they broke strong covenant, promises and firm treaties like a raw thread, and began to do against them openly. They have denied clear, unfolded and pure signs of Allaah Almighty that they left behind His entire commands. They have slain the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them), Who used to tell them about the Straight Path, while They (peace be upon them) had not committed any crime. What can be more tokens of hard-heartedness and faithlessness than it that they killed such true Well-Wishers without any cause?

They replied impudently after listening to the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), “Your talk cannot reach our hearts because those have been enfolded in covers carefully. Your words remain outside of our hearts and cannot find a way to enter into them”. It was the result of all these matters that very severe anguishes were revealed upon them. That, what they say, “Our hearts are enfolded in covers”, is not true, but Allaah Almighty has set a seal upon them for their stray and disbelief. Now they will never believe and save a few of them who have believed, they have been deprived from the Guidance forever.
