Lesson

Surah Maryam (Chapter Mary) of Holy Qur’aan had been revealed during the stay at Makkah. In it; it was described that Abraham (peace be upon Him) caused to understand His father with proofs that he should give up idol-worshiping. But His father denied. Moreover, he threatened to Abraham (peace be upon Him) in these words: If you (peace be upon Him) talked so; then I shall punish you (peace be upon Him) severely. I don’t bear your living at my home. Get out, I wish to get rid of you.

Abraham (peace be upon Him) said with sorrow to His father: O.K. I am going. Now; only it is in my power that I should pray for you before Allah Almighty to guide you, so that you believe. And your previous errors and sins should be forgiven due to belief.

Listening to this story, some Muslims began to pray also for forgiveness of their idolater parents and relatives. In the previous verse, the Messenger of God Almighty and common Muslims (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) were prevented to do so. And it was commanded: While they deserve the Hell-fire because of disbelieving, then you should not pray for their forgiveness. Abraham (peace be upon Him) prayed for His idolater father due to a reason, which has been mentioned in this verse.

It is commanded: Abraham (peace be upon Him) prayed for His father’s forgiveness due to the reason that at the time of leaving His home, He promised with His father! I shall pray from my Lord for forgiveness of your errors and sins. It aimed that He (peace be upon Him) would pray for showing the way of guidance to His father and he should believe, and by doing so, his sins might be forgiven.

But when he {father of Abraham (peace be upon Him)} died on infidelity; then He (peace be upon Him) knew that the Belief was not in his luck. After that, He (peace be upon Him) did never draw His attention towards His father and nor prayed for his forgiveness.

Therefore, while you have known from clear proofs that certainly a person is fuel of the Fire of the Hell then you should not pray for his forgiveness. Make over his matter to Allah, the Most Merciful of the Merciful. And get ready to sacrifice your lives and wealth in obedience of God Almighty.
