Lesson

Truly, the command about preparation for the Battle of Tabuuk was a very severe trial of the Muslims. The people had returned dog tired and fighting from the Battle of Hunayn and the Incident of Taif. The season was very hot. The journey was long. And from which territory they had to pass, there was nothing but deficiency of water, fields of searing sands and harsh winds of hot air.

At that time, there was very jollity in Madinah. The dates had gotten ready duly ripened. There was no deficiency of provisions. Shadow trees did exist for taking shelter from severe sunlight. By giving up these entire goods and reasons of ease and comfort, it was very difficult to choose a long journey of wilderness and untilled land, being struck down by a hot wind and moving in scorching sun.

In fact, this work was of those servants of God Almighty; whose hearts were cleansed and purified from absurd thoughts and all kinds of malice, by the benefits of the company with the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). They had observed the world in its original color and considered it totally worthless opposite to the Doomsday. The awe-inspiring Words of Holy Qur-‘aan were like flogging for their spirits.

Behold this verse for a while, what is it saying? It is commanded: If you will not go forth actively and gripping up your loins as per the orders of God Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), then you will suffer severe torment, and this entire comfort and ease will not be useful for you. If you will not arm then some other people will be appointed for this work by replacing you. The works of God Almighty cannot be stopped. If you will delay, there are many other servants of God Almighty in the world. He can punish you any time and change you with others within no time. Everything is under His Omnipotence. He can do whatever He desires without any delay.
