In God let the Believers put their trust

Lesson # 1095 from Holy Qur-’aan

In God let the Believers put their trust

Surah ‘TAWBAH or BARAAA-‘AH (REPENTANCE) – Chapter – 9)
Stage – 2, Verse – 51 of 129, Section – 7 of 16 (Part – 10)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

51.  Say: Naught befalleth us save that which Allah hath decreed for us. He is our Protecting Friend. And in Allah let Believers put their trust!
51.  Qul-lany-yusii-banaa  ‘illaa  maa  katabAllaahu  lanaa.  Huwa  Maw-laanaa.  Wa  ‘alAllaahi  fal-yata-wakkalil-Mu’-minuun.

Lesson

It is extremely foolishness of a mankind if he is happy with the problems of others and begins to sing with joy; finding himself saved from that problem, and sings the melody of the goodness of his planning a scheme. A misconception is seated in the heart under this behavior i.e. a mankind brings problems on himself due to his own ignorance, and whoever is saved from the problems; he takes precaution in advance by his own forethought.

If it be considered thoughtfully, this conception prevents the mankind from the works of very boldness and courage. And ultimately, because of being careful, from which problems he was desirous to be saved, he suffers from more serious problems than those; due to being excessive careful and cowardice.

Holy Qur’aan does not give more importance to the worldly comfort and relief. It declares: Be ready to obey the Commands of God Almighty. Comfort and relief of this world are temporary things. Like this, calamity and toil during stay here is not timorous. Every human being enjoys and suffers comfort and calamity in any form during the life of this world. In both forms he should incline towards Allah Almighty and obeying His Command must be determined as his actual aim.

In this verse, such formula has been told to the Muslims, due to which they begin to take the calamities of the world nothing. And they begin to do such work, in which neither they care about any comfort and nor any calamity.

It is commanded: Say (to these Hypocrites): Which comfort and calamity have to come, will certainly come; according to the Command of God Almighty. We should fix imagination in our hearts higher than these both things, so that their impression may not prevent us from useful matters. That is; Allah Almighty is our Protecting Friend and Guard. Whatever He will give us, in that certainly, there shall be something better for us.

Therefore, it is the magnificence of a Believer that he gives his all matters in the charge of God Almighty and engages himself in His obedience for sacrificing everything (his wealth, body and soul etc.). He trusts in Allah Almighty, which means that he puts his entire powers and strength for carrying out the Commands of his Lord. And the calamities do not make him mean-spirited, because he believes that God Almighty will help him.

When you suffer, they turn away well pleased

Lesson # 1094 from Holy Qur-’aan

When you suffer, they turn away well pleased

Surah ‘TAWBAH or BARAAA-‘AH (REPENTANCE) – Chapter – 9)
Stage – 2, Verse – 50 of 129, Section – 7 of 16 (Part – 10)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

50.  If good befalleth thee (O Muhammad) it afflicteth them, and if calamity befalleth thee, they say: We took precaution, and they turn away well pleased.
50.  ‘In-  tusibka  hasanatun-  tasu’-hum. Wa  ‘in-  tusibka  musiibatuny-yaquuluu  qad  ‘akhaz-naaa  ‘amranaa  min-qablu  wa  yata-wallaw-wa  hum  farihuun.

Lesson

Hasanatun – (good, pleasure), the word hasanah is a noun from h-s-n; it means every such thing which pleases the heart. Here it aims “success against enemies”. Just like this, calamity (musiibat) means “to be martyred, injured or defeated”.

‘Akhaz-naa – (were conscious or cautious), it is past tense from the word ‘akhaz. ‘Akhaz means “to hold fast, to bring into one’s grasp”. Here it aims “to be saved from loss or damage by prudence”.

Behavior of the Hypocrites of Madinah is being narrated. They were dwelling in Madinah but their fellow-feeling sympathies were with the inhabitants of Makkah and they were envious of observing the elevation of Muslims. Some mention about it has passed in previous Chapters. They were unable to vitiate their relations openly with the Muslims. It was the reason that they lived all together apparently, but secretly they had their loins grit for enmity. They used to remain always in such intention that “how the Muslims can suffer loss”. Their common behavior with the Muslims has been described in this verse.

It is commanded that these people are such always that whenever the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and the Muslims get success and victory, their faces grow pale and they become very sad. But if any time, the Muslims are hurt, many of them are martyred or injured, then they celebrate and say: We had already taken precaution; so that we suffer no injury. We had known in advance that the Muslims will be defeated. They cannot win. What happened if by chance, they got victory any time? How long the mother-goat will celebrate? Finally one day, that will be; which is required to be. They brag similarly, go to their houses leaving assemblies and try to hide their pleasure but that is manifest on their faces.

The Hypocrites are as “A wolf in the garb of a lamb” for the nation. There is no big danger for safety and peace from anything but them. By sending down the Revelation, Allah Almighty has betrayed their secret; otherwise, there is none who may say to them any word about it.

Evasion for being saved from difficulties of journey

Lesson # 1093 from Holy Qur-’aan

Evasion for being saved from difficulties of journey

Surah ‘TAWBAH or BARAAA-‘AH (REPENTANCE) – Chapter – 9)
Stage – 2, Verse – 49 of 129, Section – 7 of 16 (Part – 10)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

49.  Of them is he who saith: Grant me leave (to stay at home) and tempt me not. Surely it is into temptation that they (thus) have fallen. And lo! Hell verily is all around the Disbelievers.
49.  Wa  minhum-many-yaquulu’-zallii  wa  laa  taf-tinnii.  ‘Alaa  fil-fitnati  saqatuu.  Wa  ‘inna  Jahannama  la-muhii-tatum-  bil- Kaafiriin.

Lesson

Laa  taf-tinnii – (tempt me not), it is a negative sentence, which has been made from f-t-n. From this origin is a word fitnah, which has many meanings; as “trial, infidelity, evil, straying, disgrace and mutual dispute etc.” all these meanings suit here. This word has passed in Surah ‘Al-Baqarah.

With effect from the previous verses, it is being narrated that those people who have been entered in Islam for worldly purpose, but their hearts like old things as the matters against the humanity and ignorance, in which they had been entangled before Islam, such people evade at the time of labor and hard work.

In the beginning, they were present in Madinah and they used to prevent the Muslims from those works; for which; courage was required. Those who had strong Belief, they had understood their all mischief and wickedness; but some of the common people were under the influence of their wicked tricks.

At this occasion, this indication is towards a particular person, whose name was Jud bin Qays. Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) invited him to go forth with them unto Syria for participation in the Battle (Ghazwah). That wicked person formed this evasion: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! My heart does not remain in control when I see beautiful women. Roman women are very beautiful. I fear that I shall be entangled in sin after reaching there. Therefore kindly grant me leave to live here. However, I am present to spend my wealth.

God’s Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) said: “Ok. You may go, we don’t need”. Have you observed that he wishes to be saved from difficulties of journey by showing his false abstinence to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), because Islam has not influenced his heart even a little bit.

In this verse, the condition of Hypocrites has been criticized by indicating towards the above mentioned incident. It is commanded that some people say to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him): Excuse me from going forth with you, lest going there; I am entangled in the mishap of a sin with the women, because my heart becomes out of control by looking them.

Then it is commanded: He stopped for the reason, in which he and his companions have already been entangled in many evils. They are accustomed of false pleas, excuses, alluring and impostures with effect from their childhood. The Fire of the Hell will surround them from all around on the Day of Resurrection.

Manifestation of God’s Decree

Lesson # 1092 from Holy Qur-’aan

Manifestation of God’s Decree

Surah ‘TAWBAH or BARAAA-‘AH (REPENTANCE) – Chapter – 9)
Stage – 2, Verse – 48 of 129, Section – 7 of 16 (Part – 10)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

48.  Aforetime they sought to cause sedition and raised difficulties for thee till the Truth came and the Decree of Allah was made manifest, though they were loath.
48.  Laqadib-taga-wul-fitnata  min-qablu  wa  qallabuu lakal-‘umuura  hattaa  jaaa-‘al-Haqqu  wa  zahara  ‘AmrUllaahi  wa hum  kaari-huun.

Lesson

‘Ab-tagaw – (they sought), it is past tense from the word ‘ibtigaaa-‘un. This word has been passed in Surah ‘Al-Baqarah. Origin of is bag-yun. Bag-yun means “to seek”. In this meaning, ‘ibtigaaa-‘un is used particularly.

Qallabuu – (they raise difficulties), this word is from taqliib, which has been derived from the word qal-bun. Qal-bun means “to upset”. There is exaggeration in the word taqliib, that is to say; to upset again and again. The heart is also called qalb, because it changes its decisions.

It is commanded that these are the same people who continue thinking to spoil your works and whenever they got any opportunity; they did not miss to humiliate you. They have become helpless from the Intention of God Almighty and before His Command, otherwise they have left no stone unturned in destroying you.

When they observed that Islam was going to stand firmly and it was impossible to stop it, then they began to read the Kalimah of Muslims, but continued to think “It was not good. The old days of celebrating merriments have been over. The life has become regular. The time of offering prayer and fasting has begun. That freedom of pleasure and enjoyment has remained no more, which, whatever we wished, was done. We continued beating to that individual who was dying, but bowing before the powerful. We used to fool others and sing for joys, curling the mustaches. Now there are seizures and restrictions at every step: Do this and don’t do this. Sit here, stand up from here. Don’t disturb anyone. If you are a thief, your hands will be cut. If you will fornicate, you will be punished properly with stoning or whips. If you will drink wine then you will also be punished. In short, living has become much difficult”.

Upon the whole, Islam overcame by the Grace of God Almighty, till that time; they did not refrain from their devilish acts. When Islam succeeded, they were displeased and under pressure, could do nothing. But their hearts have been filled with depravity even now.

Whatever the hypocrites did in the early Battles, that has been described in Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan. Some mischievous acts of their daily life have been passed in Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’ also.

Among you; there are some who would have listened to them

Lesson # 1091 from Holy Qur-’aan

Among you; there are some who would have listened to them

Surah ‘TAWBAH or BARAAA-‘AH (REPENTANCE) – Chapter – 9)
Stage – 2, Verse – 47 of 129, Section – 7 of 16 (Part – 10)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

47.  Had they gone forth among  you they had added to you naught save trouble and had hurried to and fro among you, seeking to cause sedition among you; and among you there are some who would have listened to them. And Allah is Aware of evildoers.
47.  Law  kharajuu  fiikum-maa  zaa-duukum  ‘illaa  khabaalanw-wa  la-‘awza-‘uu  khilaalakum  yabguuna-kumul-fitnah.  Wa  fiikum  Sammaa-‘uuna  lahum.  WAllaahu ‘Aliimum-biz-zaalimiin.

Lesson

Khabaalan – (trouble), it is a noun, which means mischief, disturbance and destruction etc. we have discussed about this word in Surah ‘Aali-‘Imraan.

La-‘awza-‘uu – {(of course; (they would have hurried to and fro)}, which word la has been used in the beginning, that means “of course”. Then the word ‘awza’uu has come, which is a past tense from the word ‘iizaa-‘un. ‘Iizaa-‘un has been derived from the word waza-‘a. waza-‘a means “to keep”. ‘Iizaa-‘un  means “to step in quickly, moving fast”.

It was described in the previous verse that the people who were not getting ready to go forth with you in the forthcoming Battle, and seeking excuses to remain behind, that is from God Almighty. He does not like that they should participate in this Battle, and travel along with you. Therefore, He has turned their hearts from this side, and prevented them from going forth. And He has excited them that they should sit along with the crippled people. Allah Almighty has told the reason that; why He does not desire that they should join you for this Battle.

It is commanded that they have no interest in Islam and Jihad. If they had gone forth also along with you, they would have tried to make you too careless from your duty. Performing not the duty, considering it duty, and including with it some more purposes, for example; exhilarating and amusement, reputation, fame and worldly benefits, is a sign of destruction. They would not have been useful for you but to sow the seed of dissension among you. There are some such people also between you who listen to them and tell them your secrets. God Almighty knows them very well.

Command about holding the hypocrites back

Lesson # 1090 from Holy Qur-’aan

Command about holding the hypocrites back

Surah ‘TAWBAH or BARAAA-‘AH (REPENTANCE) – Chapter – 9)
Stage – 2, Verse – 46 of 129, Section – 7 of 16 (Part – 10)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

46.  And if they had wished to go forth they would assuredly have made ready some equipment, but Allah was averse to their being sent forth and held them back and it was said (unto them): Sit ye with the sedentary!
46.  Wa  law  ‘araadul-khuruuja  la-‘a-adduu  lahuu  ‘uddatanw- wa  laakin  kari-hAllaahum-bi-‘aasahum  fasabba-tahum  wa  qiilaq-‘uduu  ma-‘al-qaa-‘idiin.

Lesson

‘A-adduu – {they (would have been prepared)}, it is a past tense, origin of which is ‘i’-daad, it is from ‘adad. ‘addun means “to count”. ‘I’-daad means “to manage, to arrange for goods of necessity, to store the things duly counted for emergency”.

‘Im-bi-‘aasun – (to rise up unexpectedly), this word has been derived from ba-‘asa. Ba-‘asa is a transitive, which means “to cause to rise up someone else, to send the other after making him ready”. The word ‘Im-ba-‘aas is its intransitive, that is to say; to stand up by oneself and go forth after preparation.

Sabba-ta – (held back), it is past tense, origin of which is tas-biit, which has been made from sabat. Meaning of both words i.e. tasbiit and sabat are the same “to stop from any particular work, but the word tasbiit has more force. It aims “to ensnare any person in other pastimes for preventing from the actual job”.

It is commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! A lie of these people; who say themselves “Muslims, is clear from it that they did not make themselves ready to go forth, who say: We are ready to go forth with you, but we have some such work that; before completing it, we cannot go.

They say: We were ready to go forth (for the Battle of Tabuuk) but due to compulsion of such and such work, we are unable to move. But if you see at their homes, you will find that they have made no preparation for the journey. Actually, God Almighty does not like their participation in this Battle. They do not think that they should rise up to move along with others.

God Almighty has turned their hearts from this conception. Therefore, they do not think about going forth, but they have intended strongly that they would not move. They have remained involved always in this bad habit of deceiving and harming the Muslims. So, it is their ill-luck that God Almighty has bereaved them of the excellence of participation in the Battle and said: Sit ye too with the sedentary. The Muslims will come back from this journey being triumphant. And you will be distressed and disgraced for ever by sitting due to your evil days.

They ask leave who do not believe in God and the Last Day

Lesson # 1089 from Holy Qur-’aan

They ask leave who do not believe in God and the Last Day

Surah ‘TAWBAH or BARAAA-‘AH (REPENTANCE) – Chapter – 9)
Stage – 2, Verse – 45 of 129, Section – 7 of 16 (Part – 10)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

45.  They alone ask leave of thee who believe not in Allah and the Last Day, and whose hearts feel doubt, so in their doubt they waver.
45.  ‘Inna-maa  yasta’-zinu-kallaziina  laa  yu’-minuuna  BIllaahi  wal-Yawmil-‘Aakhiri  war-taabat  quluubuhum  fahum  fii  ray-bihim  yata-radda-duun.

Lesson

Yasta’-zinu – (asking leave), this word has been used already in the previous verse. Its origin is ‘iznun. ‘Iznun is a famous word, which means leave, permission. From the same origin, a word ‘istiizaan has been derived, which means ‘azan. ‘Azan means “to ask for leave”.

‘Ir-taabat – (in doubt), origin of this word is taraddad, which has been derived from radd. Radd means “to reject”. Taraddad means hesitation, when the heart rejects every meaning of any word, and it does not satisfy on anyone.

It was commanded in the verse before this; that those people who believe in Allah Almighty and have faith that surely; the Day of Resurrection will come, making excuses do not strike them. They wait for the command that when they are asked to sacrifice their lives and wealth (everything) in the Way of God Almighty, so that they may perform immediately.

Now; it is being commanded that only those people make excuses who say much verbally, but their hearts do neither believe in God Almighty and nor have faith in the Day of Resurrection. Their hearts remain seized in doubts. They consider that the benefits and comfort of this world is everything. They are unable to see above it. If any time, they reaped advantage from the Muslims and their works, then they began to follow them. But whenever any occasion of bearing hardships and suffering distresses came, they stole away by making different kinds of excuses, and for showing, they got permission of absence from the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

Known that the Sign of Belief is that; as soon as one received the command from Allah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), got ready to obey without any delay. Whosoever made excuses and did not obey, he does not know the reality of the Belief.
