Quran Chapter 13  27 (Pt-13, Stg-3) (L-1586) - درس قرآن

Turning unto Allah Almighty

Surah Ra-‘d (The Thunder) - 13

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

27.  And those who disbelieve say: why is not a sign sent down upon him from his Lord? Say: Lo! Allah sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth unto Himself all who turn (unto Him).
27.  Wa  yaquu-lullaziina  kafa-ruu  law-laaa  ‘unzila  ‘alayhi  ‘Aaya-tum-mir-Rabbih.  Qul  ‘innAllaaha  yuzillu  manyya-shaaa-‘u  wa  yah-diii  ‘ilayhi  man  ‘anaab.

Commentary

It was described previously that those people are unfortunate who disbelieve in Allah Almighty, who are inhuman for their companions and who create disturbance in the world for the purpose of their personal benefits. Being their prosperous in the world is not a sign that they are good. And nor being the Believers in straits; during their worldly life; is a sign that they are bad people. The actual matter is – success of the Hereafter, and it is in the destiny of such people who believe in Allah Almighty and correct their deeds according to His commandment, and they persevere during the calamities.

It is commanded that the disbelievers say usually: Show us a portent according to our demand if you are Messenger, otherwise how should we believe that you are Apostle of Allah? Replying to their question, Allah Almighty commands to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): Say to them! It seems from your conversation that guidance is not in your luck. I can do nothing for it. It is will of Allah Almighty that you should be accursed by Heaven. It appears from rigidity of your nature that Allah Almighty desires to keep you astray, otherwise many people of good disposition bowed before Him as soon as they heard Holy Qur’aan. They did not demand any portent. In accord with the rule, Allah Almighty guides such people who turn their attention to His Word immediately and wholeheartedly after hearing, and from it, they know Him, admit that He is their Worshipped and Lord.

Commentary

It may be a doubt that “why the Infidels are seen prosperous in the world and usually why the Believers dwell in poverty and harshness?”

Some people establish this opinion from it that (God forbid) having belief in Allah Almighty is useless. In this verse, answer to this doubt has been given, summary of which is that worldly prosperity and poverty are not signs of “Selected or Rejected” near Allah Almighty. He has fixed separate rules for wealth and property, honor, pomp and dignity in the world. According to those rules, He gives wealth more than enough to the people for whom He wills, and bestows livelihood to some people in limited quantity for whom He wills.

Reason of being overjoyed on prosperity of the world and being displeased on poverty is: Those people consider (who are given wealth abundant) that only this world is every thing. Either they do not believe in the Hereafter or give not it any importance, though the life of the world is nothing comparatively the life after death. None can trust in this life. Any person can die any time. Therefore, more than required worldly wealth and property is valueless.

It is sufficient for the mankind by which their timely requirements are fulfilled. If they will collect more wealth and property; that will not be useful for them, because they would have to die sooner or later, and every thing of the world will remain in the world. The life after death is for ever. Therefore, every individual should arrange for the Hereafter.

Commentary

In the verses before this, after describing the portents of Good People, it was commanded that after death; they will be provided ease and peace in the Hereafter. In this verse, mention is about those people who are quite opposite to them.

It is commanded that such people who turned against the Covenant of God Almighty after ratifying it and for which Allah Almighty commanded that it should be joined; they broke it, and they continued making mischief in the earth, those are bad people. Their End will not be good. They have been cursed by Allah Almighty and they will live in an ill abode where for them; is nothing but pain and affliction.

First attribute of the virtuous people has been described that they fulfill the Covenant of Allah Almighty. Contrary to them, wicked doers are such people who broke that Covenant. For this purpose, abridged words are “Belief and Disbelief”. Those who fulfilled the Covenant, they are Believers. But those who broke the Covenant, they are Disbelievers. Other attributes depend on these both attributes. Retaliation of Belief along with virtue is Paradise, but excellence along with Blasphemy is useless.

It is commanded that those people will live in the Gardens on the Day of Resurrection; in which; favorite and joyous things will be available more than the gardens of the world. They will be able to get every kind and taste of fruit freely and abundant, according to their desire. Moreover, their close relatives and friends will be along with them. It is also for their fathers, helpmates (wives and husbands) and children. Only that relationship of the world will be acceptable there; base of which will be on virtue and abstinence. The Angels (peace be upon them) will come unto the dwellers of the Gardens from all around successively and they will congratulate them on their success. They will say to them: You obeyed the commandments of Allah Almighty in the world, suffered from casual troubles and persevered on pains. Peace and congratulations! It is sequel of your worldly distresses. How much better is this Home than the world?

Commentary

It is commanded that whatsoever Allah Almighty has bestowed upon them, they spend from it in the Way of Allah Almighty; hiding from the people or openly (making known others) if it is requirement of convenience. And if any other person resolves on mischief with them, then in return, they do not revenge from him, but put it off suitably by doing good. For such people is written comfort of the life of the Hereafter. And they will dwell in peace after death for ever. It is retaliation of their patience in pains, which they endured piteously during worldly life in obedience of the commandments of Allah Almighty.

With effect from the beginning of this Section, attributes of good people have been described and it is commanded that such people will live in ease and peace on the Day of Resurrection. Those attributes are:

1.   By reciting Kalimah {( Laa-‘ilaaha-‘illAllaahu - Muhammadur-RasuulUllaah) (None is worthy of worship but God, Muhammad is Apostle of God) (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)}, they make a covenant with God Almighty, which they fulfill and break it never.

2.   They establish their relationships according to the Command of Allah Almighty.

3.   They fear from the anger of God Almighty.

4.   They think always about the reckoning of deeds on the Doomsday.

5.   They have patience for pleasing Allah Almighty.

6.   They offer prayers regularly.

7.   They pay the poor-due, alms and charity.

8.   They overcome evil with good.

22a.  Walla-ziina  sabarub-ti-gaaa-‘a  Wajhi  Rabbi-him  wa  ‘aqaamus-Salaata-

Commentary

Yasi-luuna – {(they) unite), origin of this word and the next to it “yuu-sala” is the same “wa-sa-la”. Wasala means “to unite, to join”. Here it aims “loving and treating one’s relatives nicely”, that is to say; to preserve connection with the relatives.

Suuu-‘al-hisaab – (a woeful reckoning), Suuu’ means “woeful, miserable, worst”. Suuu-‘al-hisaab is such reckoning in which accountability is very severe without concession. This word has been used also at the end of first Section.

They establish their relationships with others as Allah Almighty has commanded. They fear His wrath and do not disobey His commandments. They dread that on the Day of Resurrection, reckoning of their deeds should not be tough. Those people who endure in all conditions for the cause of seeking only the Countenance of Allah Almighty, they do not think that the people should applaud and consider them brave and of firm temperament. And those people offer the prayers regularly.

Commentary

It has been caused to understand in this verse: You know well that the person who can see everything and the person can see nothing; cannot be equal. There is a person who has seen clearly the Truth of Holy Qur’aan, and he understood that verily this Holy Qur’aan, which has been revealed on the last Messenger; Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) by the Lord of the Worlds, is the Truth. Can he be considered like him whose eyes have been overturned and who is unable to see anything?

It is obvious that first person used his sense properly as it was required to be used. As a matter of fact, those people reach the depth of any matter who use their sense correctly and do not put it entangled in useless matters. These are the people who heed that: it is their human duty that they should fulfill their covenant, which they have made with Allah Almighty, and unto which His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and His Scripture has been drawing attention.

When once such people understand the actual matter, then neither they oppose this matter and nor break their covenant. Obviously, these both kinds of groups cannot be treated equally.

Commentary

It is commanded that those people, who accept the truth which the Messengers (peace be upon them) disclosed before them; and they reflect in the verses of Holy Qur’aan, and they perform according to the commandments of their Lord, these are the people who understood the Truth. Now it will be useful for them in the world as well as in the Hereafter (in both conditions).

But those people who did not obey the commandment of their Lord, they would be empty-handed after death. There, they will know the reality of worldly goods and property that it all was like dirt, filth and useless swelling foam only, which had been assembled around actual matters. On that Day (the Day of Resurrection), if they had all such things, in addition, along with it, they had therewith the like thereof, they would be ready to proffer it all at once, for saving themselves from the Doom, but at that time, it would not be in their possession. Then they would have to face a woeful reckoning of their wicked deeds, in which they will not be able to get any favor. At last they will be thrown into the Hell, which is a dire abode and in which; there is nothing but suffering, pain and distress.

Commentary

Yazribu – {He (coins, expresses)}, origin of this word is zar-bun, which means “to give a blow, to strike, to strengthen by pressing and beating, to walk steadily, to express a matter strongly”. Here, last meanings have been taken.

It is commanded that Allah Almighty coins such similitudes for causing to understand the mankind. We should know from it that along with the useful things; useless things, and along with neat and clean things; stinking and dirty things are seen in the world equally. Like this, the false along with the true, the doubts along with the Faith arise and run for some days. But consequently, the false does not stay before the true; disbelief opposite to Belief is ruined eventually. Certainty is purified from doubts as swelling foams are thrown here and there by the pressure of water and actual thing i.e. pure water remains in the earth and it is advantageous for the land. Like this, the Truth is useful for the mankind, Belief profits, Certainty strengthens the heart, and the false, the infidelity and the doubts are finished.
